<So you think a failure to nominate this guy will prove something foul-smelling about the Democrats? Or what are you saying?
Oh, not at all. Sharpton has a zero chance of being nominated. What he will do is mess up the neat, ribbon-tied package of the "black vote" for the Democrats, including the primaries among other things.
Up until now, people like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton have been useful idiots for the Democrats, with their sole job being to marshall the black vote for elections, and then hopefully go away. Sharpton is like one of those dinner guests who stays around after the hosts have gotten their pajamas on.
Washington DC is trying to become the first primary of the 2004 election. If Sharpton is still in the race, what do you think his showing will be?
What will be amusing and revealing is the methods the Democrats use to ease him out the door without acting like they don't want him around. If they piss him off, and he runs as an independent....

Of course he's an idiot, but a useful one.
