The UN is becoming a historic farse
What with Libya on the Human Rights Commission and Iraq set to host a disarmament conference, the place is becoming a laughingstock.
Oh, they did do something interesting recently at the UN. They passed UNSC 1464 authorizing retroactively France's unilateral action in the Ivory Coast. I guess France is using the old axiom, "It's easier to beg forgiveness than ask permission."
I guess French unilateralism in treating an African state like a colony is ok, but combined US-UK efforts (with the support of Australia and 17 European countries) to oust a murderous dictator who is in material breech of UNSC 1441 is bad.
