There is no dispute that Saddam is a tyrant, a dictator, and all around bad guy.
There are dozens of dictatorial, tyrannical government leaders including Kim Jong Ill, about ten African leaders, about six Latin American jerkoffs and we won't even touch micronesia or the Malay state. And it is probably best not to mention the US troop build up in the Philippines.
And of course, we must exclude the tryrants that are friendly to the US when we make these considerations.
I will further agree that Saddam's two boys are potentially worse than Saddam.
With all this agreed upon, there is still no legitimate justification for the US to violate its entire history and pretense towards moral superiority and become the invading attacker.
There is no great movement of dissent within Iraq.
The Kurds would like to be free of Saddam's control, but then the western Kurds in Turkey would like to be out from under the heel of the Turkish government. Surely you don't suggest we invade Turkey to free them?
The Kurds are a very bad position. If they oppose Saddam they still will not be granted their own Kurdish state and will have to come under the rule of the new government we impose on Iraq.
The same will happen if they don't take up arms to oppose Saddam.
The Turk military will kill thousands of Kurds if they are armed because they will use those arms to attempt a link-up with the Kurds in western Turkey.
In that case the US military will be forced into the position of having to disarm the Kurds to keep the peace.
All in all, this war is not a good thing. It does not address American interests. And it is not a football game where we should yell "hooray for our side."
There are twelve million Muslims in the US, world wide there are a billion Muslims. The world does not need another religious crusade.
And the Islamic world is not looking to the US to solve its many problems and hatreds.
War is like a football game in that there should be something to win---Iraq is a no win situation.
Thanks for the interesting post, lots of information there that highlights the tragedy of the Kurds and suggests our impotency in being able to resolve their problems.
With this in mind, I do wish we had a president that would put his energy into solving our domestic problems.
