You Got It Backwards
That's exactly what we are. The celebrating Afghanis and Iraqis shown by a free press despite their often skeptical and disdainful attitude are plenty of evidence for that.
Unfortunately it's not a perfect world and there is no bloodless way to deal with ruthless brutal dicatators. May that no effective way. There is of course the French appeasement/get in bed approach.
