Re: Cognitive dissonance

I'm sure you don't believe that nonsense, and I'm sure you wouldn't lie. I'm stuck.

* No, I wouldn't lie.

Where were you when Cheney and Rumsfeld were supplying Iraq with chemical and biological weapons and the ability to deliver them? Where was the outrage? Or didn't that bother you? Does it bother you now?

* Call me naive, but as I understand it, what was given to Saddam at the time (yes, when we thought he was such a 'moderate') was nothing different than what was given to any other country at the time and was approved by the CDC/Center For Desease Control... as in to help fight known deseases/antidotes. What Saddam and his 'chemists' did with it after that is well known. My personal phylosophy is not to deal with such people at all, Castro included.

(Even Bill Kristol had the decency on Fox a few months ago to say that it was safe to say that concern over the rights of Iraqi citizens probably wasn't driving any of this.)

* I'm still mad as h==l for what happened to the Kurds, but you have to blame Saddam for that one.

Were you at all concerned when the Bill of Rights became optional at the whim of a madman and his accomplices? Is that the sort of society you want to leave your children, a place where one person can imprison anyone without charges, WITHOUT EVEN TELLING ANYONE, for as long as that one person wants them in the slam?

That's the current America. Under your beloved George Walker Bush. Helluva thing to leave your children, isn't it? Even if you like The Little Monkey, do you want the next president to have those powers, and the next and the next?

* I know exactly what you're driving at here and what you're trying to protect, by all means, yes, it's our rights, but if that FBI woman in Minneapolis didn't have so much red tape to go through, maybe what happened in 9-11 could have been avoided and it's because of what happened on 9-11 that much has changed in the system and to some degree, I agree with this one. I do not think that this will be a permanent law and as it is it is awfully gray. Yes, Bowser, I trust the American government.
It's the man coming down from the mountains promising to give the poor a land of milk and honey that I don't trust.

Some country that is, huh? Sort of like Iraq. I mean, where citizens can "disappear", because one leader wants them to.

* No, because maybe they're on America's Most Wanted list.

(I know, I know. There are "only" two. As if being raped twice didn't count as rape. One of the provisions is that they don't have to tell anyone how many or who has disappeared. There could be 10,000. Prove there aren't!)

* Prove there are.

Some of us think that the Bill of Rights and the Constitution are what made this country great.

* Actually, it was the spirit and common humane beliefs that Americans had when they wrote the Bill Of Rights and the Constitution that made this country great.

And some of you are hellbent on destroying those. Have, to a large degree, and you seem to be proud of it. Want to leave that legacy to your children, according to the post.

We have become what we despise in our enemies, and somehow some of you feel morally superior. I don't know how that one-way vision works.

* Morally superior? I've said this many times, the bottom line is greed and disrespect for your fellowman, be it a rightist, leftist, liberal or coming from conservatives. Yes, the actions of those in power speak volumes.
