They aren't advertising themselves as an objective news agency

Has the Pentagon put out press releases in favor of peace? No? And why is that? Because they're not pretending to be devoid of an agenda.

The websites you link to aren't pretending to be devoid of an agenda either.

Neither are these anti-American organizations and Communist (or Saddam, take your pick, it doesn't seem to matter) sympathizers:

-families of 9/11 victims;

-Veterans for Peace;

-the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops;

-the NAACP;

-the World Council of Churches;

-Military Families Speak Out;

-Brent Scowcroft;

-Generals Zinni and Sheehan (both ret.);

-Col. David Hackworth (ret.), who is anti-American to the core;

and of course, the famous Communist Pope John Paul II.

There are lots more, but I have other things to do tonight.

Perhaps some of these people have attended the protests that A.N.S.W.E.R. has also promoted. Showing up at a protest is one of the best ways to show in a very obvious way that people holding a particular position are not just half a dozen nuts smoking crack. So the more, the more obvious these people exist.

If a group makes common cause in a crisis with people they don't agree with under normal circumstances, hey, that's OK. I reiterate one of the most basic precepts of political action: If you are comfortable with everyone at the table, your coalition is too small.

After all, American administrations have formed alliances with odious regimes. Can you name two? Yet Presidents and their cabinets have no trouble overlooking reprehensible and appalling conduct by their allies, until it becomes impolitic to do so.

Mary Anne
