I know what you're saying, Tom. I've gone through this exercize before, and I can tell you that Cheney's finances are even more obfuscated than the average politician's--the guy's a pro in his own right, and has the help of a lot of other financial professionals and business partners with a stake in Cheney's success and his goodwill and access.
Looking at that long disclosure list, it's striking how many of the holdings are in the form of stock options. When Cheney leaves office in 2004, he'll step into hundreds of millions of dollars simply by writing his signature. Meanwhile, he can say with a straight face that he owns very little stock, which is true at the present. But somebody should ask him about his future interest in so many companies.
Think about stock options. They're intended to motivate employees to work for the company's interests, to align their interests. Can anybody claim that Cheney's stock options don't work exactly the same way?
