Just got a memo in office e-mail saying that there is a suspected SARS case in quarantine IN MY OWN HOSPITAL! There are others in several other BC hospitals and in several other provinces.

We are only seeing the tip of the iceberg.

From some information I've seen, AIDS in the US increased from 110 cases to 1756 cases in about 2 years.

SARS worldwide has increased from 167 cases to 1622 cases in two weeks.

Of course AIDS and SARS are very different diseases. The long incubation period of AIDS is a lareg factor in it's spread. However, AIDS is spread by specific actions on the part of the person who gets it (in almost all adult cases, anyway - sexual activity or needle sharing). SARS can be spread by casual public contact or perhaps even by breathing the same air as the victim.

Look for the number of cases in underdeveloped countries to skyrocket in the coming weeks.
