I think your point about environmental causes was correct.

It is not uncommon for respiratory viruses to be found in feces for a period of time.

There is little sanitation in China and Human feces, transferred manuallly, are still used to fertilize crops.

I have a friend who used to travel to Beijing on business for Microsoft. She couldn’t stand the city. She told me one time she was coming down an escalator in a department store and some guy came in the store, dropped his little boy’s shorts, lifted him up and had him pee in the ashtray at the bottom of the escalator.

It doesn't seem likely that a disease that has jumped from animals to humans would discriminate between races.

I’d put sewage treatment ahead their aspirations of going to the moon.
