<was a Kurdish islamic fundamentalist group which operated in Northern Iraq where Saddam held no sway thanks to the no-fly zone.
Clearly as Kurds and fundamentalist muslims, they had no love for Saddam.
This is like the fourth time I have seen this incredible "through the looking glass" interpretation of Ansar al-Islam as some kind of pro-Kurdish, anti-Saddam group.
I'm sorry, but I have no idea where people got the idea that Ansar al-Islam, a terrorist group that largely occupied itself with killing Kurds, pro-American Kurdish leaders, and other enemies of the Iraqi regime had nothing in common with Saddam.
It goes without saying that in the presence of the Northern no-fly zone, Saddam needed another way to bring pressure on the Kurds, and much evidence points to financial and weapons support of these terrorists to accomplish this.
