It occurs to me that there are a lot of unhappy foreigners holding US dollars that just got screwed out of 20% of their money. It used to be that people invested in gold to preserve value but then it became trendy to invest in dollars. One could argue that these swings in the value of the US dollar has sustained our huge foreign trade deficit. We exchange our paper money for real things like Toyotas and Mercedes. Unfortunately the people holding our money are watching it evaporate away. When the people with our dollars want to buy primary products like oil or iron ore, they will find out that the greenback buys a whole lot less. Are the people who sell primary products forced to increased their prices? Somebody is getting screwed!
