Quebec separatism

With the newly elected Premier of Quebec being federalist, it seems that separatism has been shuffled to the back of the room, certainly for the next few years and (I think) for good. Jean Charest was a high cabinet minister in the federal Conservative government, but when they got slaughtered in Mulroney's wake, he went to Provincial politics and became leader of the Quebec Liberal party (go figure - that's Canadian politics for you). Charest is quite charismatic, moderate, young, bright, popular - wouldn't be surprised to see him aim for the Prime Minister's office one of these days.

Any laughter was probably a joke of some kind - Canadian legislative sessions tend to be pretty wild sometimes.
