re: Idle speculation

I was of course being facetious about the "planted evidence." Not only would it not work, but I don't believe our President to be the psycho that the Left insists he is. You can bet your bottom dollar that whatever evidence is found will be dismissed as "planted" in any case. I'm surprised this accusation hasn't been made about the trailers yet.

Your second scenario does have some interesting points to it. A possible flaw is that unlike Iraq, where all the authority is focused tightly on a single person to be gulled (Saddam), an American "Emperor's WMD" scenario would require not only convincing Bush, but a lot of other bright people in the Administration and elsewhere. I find it hard to believe that Colin Powell of all people went before the U.N. knowing full well he had a pair of twos in his poker hand. Then there's Cheney, Rice, and others. A lot of Senators were impressed by the intelligence reports as well during briefings.

While the left is doing its damnedest to make it look like no reasonable person EVER thought there was WMD in Iraq before the attack*, I remember at the time that most anti-war types stipulated that such weapons might exist, but that the U.N. inspection process was the way to remove them. And this was with all the same public intelligence reports that are being discussed now.

*Just like they are trying to pretend that no reasonable person EVER thought the war would be anything but a cakewalk.
