'Scuse me while I put my yarmulke on...
Why do you find it anti-Semitic, phil? (or were you fishing? doubt it...)
Saturday morning, the rabbi made mention of Sharon's sudden turn-around, in terms of avoiding cynicism and retaining hope about it, in spite of all the previous setbacks. I haven't been following the news much recently, so I don't personally know the story or the background. I've half-heard a lot of talk about a "road map", but all it brings to mind is an ancient Dylan lyric from "Tombstone Blues":
... selling road maps to the soul
to the old folks' home
and the college
Do you think the cartoon implies that the only way to get a Jew to do anything is to pay him? I don't. I do think the cartoon implies that the only way Sharon's policies could be turned toward negotiation is by a promise of whatever aid to the State of Israel is part of the deal, but there's sure as Hell nothing new about that in US/Israeli relations... or in US relations with just about any country they want something from.
And there's something you (at least) ought to get straight:
Opposition to the policies of the current Israeli government is not anti-Semitism.
That is, unless you want to include the 'peace parties' in Israeli politics in your list of anti-Semites. Of course, I might understand it as an unfortunate corollary to considering opposition to the current US government's policies as anti-American...
Oh, by the way - have you noticed yet that the Islamic natives of the Middle East are Semites, too? A lot of people miss that.
