The problem is that his "enlightenment" doesn't extend past his self-interest.

He has a gay daughter who is as "out" as "out" gets. She has been impregnated and she and her partner are parents. Cheney's options -

Come out for gay marriage, and legitimize those kids, or

follow the party line and condemn gay marriage, have his grandchildren live with an unwarranted "stain" forever.

Since it was in his self-interest, he went for the former. I'm not convinced it was any awakening regarding people, sexuality, human or civil rights, because those aren't there.

I truly wish I could believe Cheney had changed. I don't like feeling about him the way I do. Unfortunately this simply reinforced by belief that he has no morality, will do anything in his self-interest.

And that's his loss, but even more mine.
