Once again, it's up to the families to decide whether to move the war dead or not. It certainly isn't up to you, me, and most definitely not the federal government. Should the families make that decision for whatever reason, they've earned that right.

The line about freedom of choice is a throwback into the faces of certain people who only seem believe that it applies to abortion. Those people want to force their choices on others in matters like vehicle selection, home selection, school selection, and the like. If it fits, wear it. If not, then what's your problem?

As you point out, the interrelationships of businesses around the world make it impossible to completely boycott a country like France. However, it isn't hard for me to decide to take my tourism money elsewhere. Tourism is a major revenue source for France. After all, as your story indicated, they're largely a bunch of assholes anyway, so why would I want to go there again? I went to Paris in 1978 and 1979. While Paris has beautiful architecture and museums, it was one of the filthiest places I've ever seen. The streets and sidewalks were covered with dog feces (at least, I presumed it was from dogs). No thanks. The next time I go overseas, it'll be to a place where I can walk around without having to look at the ground to keep from stepping in their crap.

It's also easy for me as an individual to select just about any product they make from another source than from a French one. There are better wines made elsewhere. They have the reputation of keeping the good wine for their own consumption anyway. The stuff they export is their lower quality merchandise. Overall, it's hard to think of any French products that can't be replaced by an equivalent from somewhere else.

Back in 1986, a division of Toshiba sold critical machine tools to the Soviet Union illegally. Those tools allowed them to make their submarines much harder to detect, including subs loaded with a bunch of nuclear tipped missiles aimed at the US. I've spent many thousand dollars on computer equipment since 1986, but none of it has gone for Toshiba products. That's me exercising my freedom of choice. If you don't like it, well, too bad.
