A slightly different standard of proof applies to the existence of Saquatches in the woods based on a few probably fake footprints, than that a dictator with a known history of building, deploying and using weapons of mass destruction, concealing such things (including a known and proven nuclear program), and of supporting specific terrorist actions, might actually be still doing this in more recent times.
Let's say you went into the woods, and found thousands of old eroded Yeti footprints, old Yeti bones all over the place with a primate genetic signature, old Yeti hair on branches, nests in trees, and animal carcasses that had once been chewed by primate fangs, but none of this evidence was less than a couple of years old.
Although you had not yet found a live Yeti, you might stand on somewhat firmer ground claiming they may still be in the area somewhere than current Yeti proponents do.
