The only people that are convinced that Bush lied about the war or was incompetent in his handling of the war are those that bitterly opposed him from the beginning...
I must humbly disagree. I'd been staunchly pro-Bush since before he assumed the Oval Office, right up to the end of the war.
I can't make any meaningful assesments about lies or incompetence. All I know right now is that I have an overwhelming sense of betrayal. I bought into the war because we were repeatedly assured that Iraq had stockpiles of WMD...yet they are nowhere to be found. I can't simply assume they've all been tracelessly dispersed, or--worse--that it really doesn't matter whether they ever existed at all.
My sense--and I could most certainly be wrong--is that the war in Iraq was never about national security in the way it was sold to us. They should have told us what they really had, not what they thought we needed to hear in order to get us behind the war (which is, I'm sorry to say, what I think happened).
I beleived what I was told because I wanted to beleive it. Looking at it now, it seems awfully irresponsible.
