re: E-mail in France

It is irrelevant where the word Courriel was invented. France likes it because it is "French."

And if no one can legislate the use of a word, why make the law in the first place except on behalf of silly parochialism? What possible reason can you give for a rational person to be bugged by the use of the word "e-mail?"

I would bet that a good fifty percent, if not more, of American English is words from other languages. IMO, this puts those supporting "English as an official language" laws on shaky ground, and nobody else cares.

Heck, if it wasn't for the American military, everyone in France would be talking like Alex from "A Clockwork Orange."
