I've got a mother of a branch cutter that will slice through a 1 1/2-inch branch or sapling. No sawdust. It's on the end of a long pole, too.
There are hydraulic jobs that mount on the front of a truck that will slice off a foot thick tree, but that would leave obvious tracks.
Which could explain the how, but not the why.
