I'm buoycotting this film, for a couple of reasons, one of which you have hit spot on. the first two terminator films were edgy, daring and violent THRILLERS. they weren't action films per se. The level of danger was believealbe (to some extent).
The TX doesn't scare me, simply because she is too powerful. The level of action and danger in this film (evident in the trailers) triups that fusebox in my brain, crossing the line between danger and farce.
Second reason is the way the entire concept of this film was such a disappointment., when i heard 'rise of the machines' i imagined a sequel to the terminator films similar to what "aliens" did to "alien". I was genuinely excited. Then, this carbon copy, not-one-original-idea-in-hollywood piece of crap came rolling into my fierld of vision and my anticipation turned to anger.
Finally, I am totally buoycotting the movies right now. i haven't been to an actual cinema in almost a year (to see LOTR 2), though i do see some good films at my local (acting) theatre - wich cuts the crap and shows films like 'about schmidt'. The reason for my buoycott? witnes: charlie's angels, the hulk, American Wedding, A very brady sequel for Christ's sake! when hollywood comes up withsomethign original (and i know LOTR and About Schmidt were books, but cut me some slack) i will go and see it. for now, rehashing the same action plot around slightly different themes is nto working for me.
God help us when they start mass producing Tom Clancy in movie for
