re: Not my stuff

Sorry Tom, but I didn't write that stuff, but others have. I am merely sharing it here for you and others to read.

...You don't want hear that things aren't going well...you don't want to accept that Mr. Bush has made a terrific mistake...lets just shove the bad news under the rug and not talk about it.

You don't seem to have any trouble with good news being shoved under a rug. Of course, if all you are doing is reprinting what you find in the mainstream media (Maureen Dowd, for God's sake), I can understand how a negative viewpoint might be the result.

Cripes, do you really think some hassles with supplies during a war are an indication that the entire effort is a failure? We have to air ship supplies instead of surface ship them and all of a sudden we are in a lost cause?

Have you ever studied World War 2? How many times our asses were in far more serious cracks? What would you have said after the Dunkirk rout? In hindsight it looks so damn cut-and-dried, but those who were around then remember listening to the radio and wondering how it was all going to come out. Six bloody years.

Basically, I'm getting sick of the sullen whining, and believe me, you are far from the worst culprit. I sat through the crepe-hanging during the march to Baghdad, the halt before the attack, the bombings, and the rest. Every casualty, every stall, every tiny setback, every mistake, every soldier who missed a damn meal, was taken as an indication that the entire effort was an unmitigated disaster. This has gone on non-stop since then.

If we had done things the way you think they should have been done*, Saddam would still be in power, the U.N. would still be being led around blindly by their noses, their own personnel infested with Saddam's people (you DID hear who they hired as security guards, didn't you?), the U.N. raking in billions in oil-for-food cash, and Saddam and Sons pretty much having their own way long into the forseeable future.

Hell, if we had done things the way A.N.S.W.E.R. and the peaceniks wanted us to, the Taliban would still be in power and we would probably be short a few more skyscrapers or nuclear reactors. Oh, you HAVE noticed that no one has managed to commit even a small act of terrorism in the U.S. since 9/11? Or does that fact get swept under the rug too?

*whatever that would be. I have never gotten a clear answer on how anyone else, including Al Gore, would have done things differently, although hand-waving and vague references to endless U.N. "inspections" under the control of Saddam and enforced only by our troops parked in perpetuity in the Gulf, seemed to figure in it somewhere.
