re: Thank's But Please Explain

Hi, Mark--

The articles are available in PDF format only, which I can download and send as attachments in answer to reference questions. I've never tried to cut and paste excerpts, but past experience suggests that this would be impractical, and maybe impossible. SciAm takes a very proprietary posture concerning their articles.

If you would like me to attempt to answer a question by consulting and quoting articles, I can do that, but truthfully, I think you would be the better judge of what you want from a particular article. If you want me to look through an assortment of articles to provide a precis of what each contains, I can do that. You can get an idea yourself by using the Back Issues tab at SciAm's home page and viewing the contents of each magazine. You probably remember that they also have a Search box and an Advanced Search function that will bring up results from all their articles, 1993-present.

I may not violate the library system's agreement with SciAm by providing reproductions of the entire contents of an issue. (The archive is bundled with a group of Grove's Dictionaries for subscription purposes.) Of course I'm not permitted to post the whole text of an article here, but we can do this by email, as individual reference inquiries. There's a link to an addy of mine in my previous post.

If you're not connected to your local public library, you may wish to ask what databases they have available for remote patron use. The home access I have is provided through the public library system by the PA Dept of Education, and is available to everyone in the state who has a valid library card, not just staff. Perhaps your library offers similar access.

Let me know how I can help.

Regards--
Mary Anne
