Jargon

Hey, jargon has a legitimate function. Sometimes special words and languages are required to clarify an issue, especially in the sciences and arts.

And sometimes jargon is used to muddy an issue, in all fields of study. Like anything else, it depends on the user. Deciding whether someone is clarifying or fogging a concept--and if the latter, the motivations for it--is no easy process, especially if one is not at home with the jargon in the first place.

I still say the greatest and most basic truths and ideas are simple ones*. E=MC^2 is elegant and simple, as is the structure of DNA. So is TANSTAAFL, both in social sciences and thermodynamics.

However, it's worth noting that getting to that point for Einstein was not a simple process. The structure of DNA did not just fall into the laps of the researchers, either. "Simple" and "easy to come by" are not the same thing at all.

*"Only the real truths are simple" is kind of saying it sideways, and is not really correct.
