Sorry, there are plenty of socialists in Europe, and plenty in America. Given the "simmering frog" way socialism has been integrated into American society, few people even realize what the word means any more.

Put it this way: during the first half of the history of America, if one had gone into the nation's capital and proposed that the government should pay for everyone's retirement, medical care, schooling, and food and housing for all the poor, they would have been tossed out a second-story window. Yet not one person in the building would have submitted that such things are not human needs that should be met. Just not by the federal government.

Now we have been trained to find the idea of doing such things without the government not only a bad idea, but literally inconceivable. Most people can't even wrap their minds around the idea of things like privatizing retirement or education.

Most modern Americans don't notice socialist concepts any more than a fish notices water. It's much worse in Europe.
