The problem is at the slightest ambush, bomb or terrorist attack against a US soldier (even if 2 or 3 weeks of peace have gone on), the US will demand more time to stay.
Hardly. We are there for the Iraqi people, not for war. We will be replaced by Iraqi forces, and move out.
Believe it, or not.
It's so similar to the Israel occupation and for the same reasons.
There will be fewer attacks on the soldiers, with time, there probably will eventually be a timetable but if there is an attack by terrorists just before the troops are supposed to leave, guess what the US will do?
Retaliate, as we continue with the timetable to pull out.
Believe it, or not.
I saw a BBC report from an embedded journalist who interviewed an Iraqi doctor (they're educated, needed and know English and he also feared Saddam). He's thankful to the US for having freed them from Saddam and says Iraqis have therefore accepted the US presence (and so far hasn't complained loudly about it) but 6 months becomes too much and they’re very likely soon going to forget the US was their liberator.
Yes, about the same time Iraq will have a new government, a new police force, and a new army. Also about the same time the U.S.-led Coalition departs.
Believe it, or not.
