As far as I can see, the theory requires billions of tons of matter to somehow appear in the center of the Earth for no particular reason. Even Steady State theories--also not doing so well right now--assumed that matter appeared evenly distributed throughout the universe.

I can make LOTS of theories work if I'm allowed to whomp up assumptions like that.
