Some figures:
USA: 2002, $13.3 billion (45.5% of world sales, $8.6 billion to the developing world)
USA: 2001, $12.1 billion
Russia: 2002, $5 billion to the developing world
France: 2002, $1 billion to the developing world
The source for the figures is the NYT. Surfing around the Google results on weapon sales usa france I found sufficient links to verify that the US leads in overall sales and developing nation sales. I do not know what they consider the "developing world". Are India, S. Korea, Turkey, Greece, and Israel included? Also, there is no breakdown on types of weapons. US jets are in high demand and is doesn't take many to get into high dollars.
It should also be noted that arms sales grew and flourished under the previous Dem administration so this is not a Bush thing. It is an American business thing.
