or dismissive of religion, then you'd be right. There are a lot of liberals who come across as hostile to people who hold religious views, especially those they disagree with. Most Republicans aren't that way. I'm agnostic. Many of my friends are devout Christians, and a small number are Jews. We get along fine.
Yes, there are quite a few fundamentalist religious types out there that are creationists. Without any firm evidence, I'd wager they make up a small percentage of the US population, most likely well under 10%. Consequently, they make up a small percentage of Republicans. However, it is absurd to expect Republicans to reject these people based on their religious views, especially given the close nature of recent elections. That sort of bigotry seems reserved for the Left, as illustrated by Howard Dean yesterday:
Democratic presidential candidate Howard Dean told a Tallahassee audience today that southerners have to quit basing their votes on "race, guns, God and gays."
That sort of stereotyping is a big reason why Senator Zell Miller (D-GA) says that the Democrats are A National Party No More.
Once upon a time, the most successful Democratic leader of them all, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, looked south and said, "I see one-third of a nation ill-housed, ill-clad, ill-nourished."
Today our national Democratic leaders look south and say, "I see one-third of a nation and it can go to hell."
Current Events » in reply to Republicans clearly pander to creationists
If by that you mean that Republicans aren't actively hostile...
