PS

The other issue: what marriage is to be defined as - is pretty self-evident. Tax benefits to married couples was meant to facilitate the growth of a family. Since they can't bring a child into the world by themselves they don't deserve any tax credits or legal recognition. Adoption just doesn't count either and personally I also oppose allowing same sex couples to adopt children for the reasons in the above post.

Where same-sex relationships thrive, birth rates drop. Unless we want to be the United States of the Third World Immigrants like the Netherlands or many European nations who have now instituted government policy to pay out big cash rewards to heterosexuals for having children to keep the place from falling apart economically and socially (Germany has this in place too) - then gay marriage must be seen for the destructive force that it is.

Tom made a good point when he asked just how far we go to recognize unique "relationships"* Eventually we will find ourselves giving onanists who adopt a child - a marriage license between themselves and their hands.

A visit to the towns wher polygamy is still thriving would be an educational trip for members of Congress.
