You'd better get used to it. And you better get used to not being welcome there any more either. Middle of the road Republicans like yourself are disdained, hated, called RINOs and (the worst insult of all) Moderates.
Conservative principles like less government, encouragement of free enterprise, reduced spending and lower taxes, do not differ all that much from traditional Democratic principles. Hell, those are MY pricnples, I'm no goddamn Bolshevik, even though I've been called as much right here on this forum. There is just a difference in application, degree and emphasis.
The left draws the dividing line in a different place, and the two sides have to negotiate and compromise because they do not agree on everything. But they are really not that far apart. And THAT is what the founding fathers really had in mind; Philadelphia and Boston in the late 18th century, not the Salem witch trials of a century earlier.
These people do not compromise, they do not negotiate, they are anti-science, anti-reason, anti-liberty (except for the liberty to exploit their workers, pollute their environment, cheat on their taxes and gouge their customers) without interference from law or regulation or common decency. Fortunately, most of them don't really have the power to do that. They work for the Man just like the rest of have to.
Don't just take my word for it, talk to all the middle of the road GOP leaders who have been forced out by primary challengers from the extreme Right. There is a purge going on in the Republican Party right now. Haven't you noticed?
The Republicans have done what they have accused the Democrats of doing, they have gone to the most extreme elements on their side and sold out to them. There is no Communist conspiracy, but there sure as hell is a Fascist one. The Republican party created it because they felt themselves demographically challenged: there were too many brown and black and gray and gay and poor and female and young people challenging the "REAL" Americans, the so-called and self-styled patriots, the people just like them. (As if they were the only people who really loved their country.)
They are becoming a minority population now, and they don't like it now that its happening to them becuse they remember perfectly well how they treated minorities. And now, one of THOSE PEOPLE is actually President. It's no wonder they're always accusing him of being "foreign", a Muslim, a Socialist. Hell, they can't stand that his story is as American as it can get: poor local boy makes it all the way to the top. It must really piss them off.
The "Good" Republicans have created a Frankenstein monster, and that monster is now coming after them. As much as they would like you to, Liberals don't really expect you to join them, but if you want to be in a position to contribute to your country's future, to participate in its political dialog, you had better come together in a strong Independent movement. Because the extreme Right hates apostates and dissenters even more than it hates Bolsheviks, They will destroy you unless you join them unquestioningly.
"First they came for the Communists, but I was not a Communist." Then they came for the Socialists. Then they came for the Liberals, then for the Democrats, and now they're coming after you.
