...is our own reactions to the world around us.
When one realizes that one cannot control the outside universe but is a participant in it - a new logical awareness must be established.
1. I cannot control the universe.
2. I can control my thinking.
3. If anything in the universe makes me unhappy then it is my fault.
---a. Because I am responsible for my own thoughts.
4. It is futile to try and control or change the universe.
5. It is not futile to try and control my thinking processes.
That is why we cannot allow ANY external event control our happiness - and why if we are unhappy we only have ourselves to blame. When I was unhappy about Clinton being in office - was it Clinton's fault? No. It was my own. When the Bush-haters believe Bush is responsible for their unhappiness - is he? No. They are responsible for their own thoughts.
This concept is an advanced one. The default reaction for this world is to blame one's unhappiness on external events, actions and to place it upon others. Once everyone embraces this understanding, fear, hatred, unhappiness almost disappear. You'd be surprised how quickly unhappiness dissipates when you realize and understand that you are the only person who can make you unhappy!
Oh, your thoughts will fight against this concept tooth and nail. They will howl and screech in protest and then suddenly your small voice within (the big boss;-) will suddenly take charge, "My god it's true!"
From this day forward you will not be the same person.
You will be more "you" than you have ever been before. Because the "you" of the past was unable to release these various emotions as long as one believed they were controlled by external events and those around you.
It's amazing how satisfying it is to recapture control of one's own consciousness.
One of the ironic side effects of mastering your own thoughts and giving up on trying to control your environment - is you end up having a greater positive influence on those around you and your environment - even when that is not your conscious intent.
It is because those around you realize that you are not subject to the same emotional roller coaster and sense an inner calm.
Becoming the master of our own minds is far more effective than trying to control the universe and make it conform to our own thought structures. Equilibrium can be achieved in our thoughts, while the outside world is a constant sea of changing energy expressions.
Each event, each thing that occurs on this world is an energy expression. Our reaction to it is based upon our own understanding and development. The further along we progress and the less any of this external energy can imbalance our own consciousness. Our thoughts become an even keel and the ship of our mind sails true and yar, despite the most turbulent external seas.
Yet even if the world does not understand or accept this reality - it will not burden me in the least. For I cannot be emotionalized for long anymore, because almost immediately that awareness comes in and the emotion is discharged, balanced with understanding.
Hope everyone had a happy Thanksgiving, and if not - well they now know whom they can really blame!
