The simple wishes don't work out very well. I remember also an "X-Files" involving a genie, and Mulder, who made all the vanilla liberal wishes.
I choose the Fantasy Technology Route!
1. Star Gate technology or a really hot FTL drive. Preferably the former, a la "Tunnel in the Sky." Life becomes a lot better when it's possible to go someplace else when things get crappy. One of our problems nowadays is the lack of a practical frontier, with the key word being "practical."
1a. A method allowing humans to adapt successfully to zero-G would be almost equally useful. Huge zero-G colonies are EASY to build compared to ones on planetary surfaces or ones that need to be spun for gravity.
2. Working force fields. An SF novel called "Shield" dealt with this ultimate libertarian fantasy, when everyone can put themselves beyond the reach of oppression. In Blish's "Cities in Flight," the force field and FTL drive were the same thing, so you could mush them into a single wish!
3. Phasers that can be set to "stun." Or a safe and effective knockout gas. The former is only seen in Star Trek, and the latter only exists in the movies. Ask the Russians. Like the zero-G adaptation, this one may actually be feasible someday.
It would make the kind of warfare we are engaged in astonishingly effective if we could send an entire village instantly and harmlessly into dreamland and go in and sort out the bad guys. And police work would become a lot easier too.
These are just the first three that come to mind. Autodocs would be nice.
