re: How is BLT possible?

As Abe said: 'tis better to stay silent and be thought a fool than to speak up and be observed as one.

Old Chinese proverb (my favorite): " He who asks a question may appear a fool for a moment, but he who never asks remains a fool for a lifetime."

I came up with this idea two years ago on MSNBC and I think it was Marcia that shot it down. I guess "because Einstein said so" is a good enough reason but mechanically it seems like it should work. In brief:

- A truss or boom 10,000 miles in length
- Two opposing boosters, 1/4 mile either side of center.

Accelerate the boosters to 25,000 miles/hr achieving 6 revs/sec.
If the damn thing holds together, the end of the truss will exceed c.

According to Albert and Marcia it won’t work. Something about the mass increasing the faster it goes.

Anyway how about a small-scale truss to lob things around the solar system in a hurry?
