Are you gonna try it? I'm not gonna try it. Hey!... let's get RNE...

I've edited, but never backed up the registery before, and since my wife would kill me if I crashed her machine, how about giving this a try?

Ok, a problem I had was IE 6 was not closing on windows XP. Just happened one day, when you click the X, it wont close, just beeps. Tried uninstalling, and downloading new version.... nothing.

Solution from a different forum, works as such.

Not quite sure that it solve your problem, but I bet that it will. Just be careful because you need to edit the registry. I would strongly recommend backing up your registry before editing it because it is possible to make your computer unusable if you make a mistake. Anyway...to fix the problem you need to delete the following registry entry and then restart you internet explorer.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Browser Helper Objects

to get there in Run: regedit

good luck,
