I was out of town and out of contact when that dismal ruling came down. It made me want to throw up. The Supreme Court, which has ruled that most forms of pornography as well as "symbolic acts" like flag burning are protected speech, essentially ruled that private organizations don't have the same right. Of all the patently absurd portions of the McCain-Feingold legislation, the one restricting 3rd party advertising within 60 days of an election would appear to be the most clearly unconstitutional, but I guess the Supreme Court's version of the Constitution doesn't include the First Amendment.
Amendment I - Freedom of Religion, Press, Expression. Ratified 12/15/1791.
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
