Tom,

Its really very simple...the second reason Mr. Bush gave for going to war against Iraq - that Saddam had ties with Al Qaeda - simply wasn't any more true than what Mr. Bush gave as his first reason - that Iraq had large stockpiles of WMDs. Neither of these reasons have proven true.

Even Mr. Colin Powell has admitted that he had no evidence for any such links. Here is what he had to say on January 8, 2004: " "I have not seen smoking-gun, concrete evidence about the connection."

Now that Saddam has been toppled, the Baathists have found new allies in Al Qaeda and have formed relationship that didn't exist before.
