Neither the Baathists, nor Al Qaeda had motivations before the war to overcome their natural enmity and collaborate.
Utter bullshit. Both camps had and have a blinding and years-long hatred of America. Remember the Gulf War? Saddam even tried to assassinate former President Bush. And al Qaeda was attacking us long before we ever invaded Iraq.
And that doesn't even bring Israel into it.
If they can work together now, they could have worked together then. In fact, Saddam's caution against working with al Qaeda was when he was powerless--after the war, not before it--so it's possible that when Saddam was in power he would have been even more secure about sharing common goals with the Islamists.
And in case you have forgotten, al Qaeda is not the only terror organization in the world. Saddam has a known record of working with terrorists active in the Middle East.
