Current Events » in reply to Extreme evil reported in North Korea

The whole country is a concetration camp!

However unfortunatly we have both, a nation sized concetration camp, and another nation as hostage.

If you are not in favor of military action itself, but rather attempting throught the U.N., knowing full well that it will be futile and serve only to clear our name for turning ablind eye to the tragedy, then, oddly enough I would probably agree with you.

North Korea is also a nation that holds 14 million peaceful and completely oblivious South Koreans hostage through an artillery barrage that could sustain anywhere from 600,000-1,000,00 artillery shells per 2 hours (with a good hefty percent of thsoe chemical munitions) and the rest of the peninsula hostange to its array of Scuds, Scarabs, and Frog serries missiles (damn near all of those will have chemical munitions).

Then take into account an insurgency force. Heres a must read FAS aritlce (looks like a U.S. army report that got leaked) - thats 121 THOUSAND SOF soldiers brainwashed form birth and organised into whole brigades of nothing but snipers, sabatours (i.e. large scale bombings etc. . ) and kidnappers spread through out south korea and unleasing untold mayhem. It would not be like Iraq, there are a hundred time the insurgents, and these guys are well trained, motivated and hungry.

I think most are damn well assured to make it into the coutry in their stealth aircraft (made from wood and canvas), Submarines, and tunnels dug under the DMZ, through which thousands could pass in a matter of hours.

Combined with a standing army of 1 million and reserves totaling 7 million (30% of the nations men, and women forced to do military drill from the age 14 - 65)

In my my opinion North koreas army is not designed to win anything, only to ensure any attempt at taking it out is a Pyrrhic Victory.

For us to actually invade NK would be suicide without the South korean forces, who total 650,000 compared to our 37 thousand troops on Penninsula (and of that only ten thousand are grunts). Actually convincing South Koreas leadership to do this would be like convincing them to saw off one of their arms by themselves without any anesthetic.

I think Toms Idea of getting China to do it is great, maybe they could lauch a quick decapitation strike against P`yongYah'ng. But I don't consider that likely at all. The most ethical way I see of ending hell defined would be, ironically, to permanently cut off all food aid and blockade the entire country for several years; but I can't explain my reasoning for that here.

For now, its an evil we have to live with.

Justin Kelly
