Projecting your own disrespect on others as a defense might work on co-workers, kids and the postman but not with me.
If It was the spring of '45 and Hitler had been taken out and I read an article decrying the loss of US lives in Europe I would be writing a letter to the paper in short order about getting their priorities straight and of making light the purpose of a soldier and in his sacrifice in making the world a safer place for democracy and human rights.
I know you would have been content to leave Saddam in place, sanctions were working, the skies were all rosy and the smell of decomposing corpses couldn't reach the Pacific-Northwest. However for those who pleaded with us to get rid of Saddam (the hundreds of thousands of Kurds) and the rest who are happy to see him gone (The Shi-ites, The Kuwaitis, The Israelis) all those US servicemen who have given their lives have not done so in vain.
I see the Iraqi man kissing the liberating US soldier out of joy. I see the free Iraqis tearing down the statue of their torturing oppressor and killer of their siblings and friends. I do not think their deaths were in vain and neither should you.
I find your (and others) attempts to base the war's validity solely on the find of any discovered stockpile of WMD, disrespectful. Your suggestion that these families have lost loved ones for some inconsequential purpose is demeaning and belittling their own beliefs and what they signed on to do. I posted the links about the atrocities and human rights abuses of Saddam's regime down below for Odin (many from that famous rightwing group Amnesty International) If you choose to ignore such abuses - I can only assume that you aren't a big proponent of human rights. Anyone who actually reads those links and the documented facts contained therein can see clearly that this war was not only the most constructive and beneficial war in the past twenty years, but that it is a monumental victory for human rights and is already causing reform in surrounding nations.
By trying to belittle this war, you become a tool for those who would like to return to the days of crucifying, torturing, amputating and branding.
You don't really want other humans to have to go back to those things do you?
