The problem with Hillary is the problem Lieberman had - a stigma of loser. Gore/Lieberman were the symbolic "Clinton Legacy". That legacy is burnt toast. The political machinery is notoriously harsh with losers. All the lies and suppressed truths come out and can't be put back in the bottle. As a result they become unelectable. Gore dissing Lieberman, Lieberman dissing the hard left - it just weakens the Clinton bit. She'll wait until 2008, but her harshness will simply make her even more of caricature of the bitter gender-neutral, power-grabber as it already has.
That's why they rallied around someone like Dean - a total unknown, even though he isn't qualified to be mayor of Los Angeles. Kerry, Dean, Clark, Edwards or Clinton - each one has so many weak spots that Rove is just putting a fresh edge on his blade for after the nomination convention.
Clinton voted for the war. Clinton is not "fresh". Besides, Bush has not alienated the big corporate folks on the left and has instead thrown money at key left wing institutions such as the NEA and, for a while, pumped up the profits of the steel industry.
Despite the typical democrat news focus - Bush is in the catbird seat.
(Besides the September or October surprise being planned will surely throw the Democrats into a tailspin and subsequent crash and burn mode and thats also why the Clinton's have not really talked out against the war in Iraq becuase they still have a few ears in the WH ;-)
Isn't politics fun?

- Drudge about to drop a bomb on Kerry?
- Chris Lehane's fingerprints all over this?
- "Clark to endorse Kerry??" Okay, now I'm really confused.
- Is Drudge any relation to CMOT Dibbler
- Does the name Monica Lewinski ring a bell?
- National Guard service, photos with Jane, interns...Would it be asking too goddam much to have some issues actually be related to political policies and philosophies? (n/t)
