Stereo Viewing

Personally, I hate red-blue stereo images. I've been interpreting geologic structures using stereo pairs for decades, got this cool set up that uses prisms and mirrors to view areal photos. Lately, I've been using it to view Nav And Hazard Cam pairs, and let me tell you, they are sooooo cool. Like being there. I've been hoping NASA would post a pair of color images for me to download and oogle, but not yet. I've not yet played with creating my own from the raw data. One of these days.

You don't need a big ole fancy viewer, though. Many inexpensive versions are available on the web. Or, you can use a piece of cardboard. Or you can adjust your eyes to create an image between the two. You have to cross your eyes a bit, so I don't recomend doing that for too long, but it's how we do it in the field.

Stereo photography is a hobby of mine that digital photography has greatly enhanced. All you do is take a pic, take a very small step to your right, keep the camera parallel to where it was, shoot, download, print, and enjoy. There are more detailed tutorials on stereo photos on the web. If I could find them in my bookmarks I'd post them, meanwhile, google away.

Robert, sounds like you've created a valuable means of navigating the raw images, maybe you can sell it to nasa?
