"In a 4 1/2-hour speech to economists, Castro . . ."
"He recited for a half-hour from a published compilation of Bush malapropisms, bent over with laughter as the audience roared."
In summary, Castro told economists (his audience) Bush malapropisms and they roared (laughed.) You could argue that his audience was probably much larger than just economists and therefore it's only implied that the economists laughed, but that's not what you've asserted.
As I understand it, your argument is: I said economists laughed at Bush. Castro laughed, therefore I think Castro is an economist.
Logically, an analogous argument is: Birds feed at my birdfeeder. Squirrels feed at my birdfeeder, therefore squirrels are birds.
If I'd said only economists laughed at Bush, you'd have a good argument.
I didn't. You don't.
