Popular support

There is absolutely no evidence that the support of a majority of a nation is required for an insurgency to conceal itself. Do you remember the 1960s, and the Weather Underground? There are many other examples. OBL could be effectively concealed in some remote villiage. It doesn't mean everyone in Pakistan knows where he is. How many people knew where Saddam was hidden? A dozen?

Also you are completely ignoring the huge number of insurgents and terrorists that have been run down and captured in Iraq. As with Saddam, almost all of them are due to cooperation of the Iraqi civilians. Not many of these make the mainstream news unless there's a big fish involved.

I'm not pretending the Iraqi's think America walks on water, but they hate the Baathists worse, or we would have gotten nowhere at all. It doesn't take much research to find this.

I suggest you go read the Iraqi blogs for a more realistic outlook.

If you want an example of a terror movement that does seem to have widescale support of the population, according to actual surveys, check out the Palestinians.

I'm not sure how productive this argument can be since you have already established that you consider evidence that disagrees with you "propaganda." For sure, you aren't the only one.
