I think getting power from fusion is going to be viable in time. It seems to be waiting for
better clocks, which can control
more powerful magnets,
faster, in response to
better sensors.
All of those will be available. When, I don't have the slightest idea, but will happen.
I'm a bit afraid of what will happen when virtually unlimited power is available. Depends upon who controls it. If that is limited to one group, potential freedoms could become very real slavery for most of the world. (Will unlimited power lead to more global warming - that would be ironic. Developing cheap, unlimited power, and having to curb its use.)
It seems to me the heat problem is sort of simple. If I'm very hot, I may not be able to do anything about the temperature outside, that's cyclical, could be a normal event, an Act of God, if you will. And, I could stop cooking over a hot stove.
Might not solve it all, but could keep me from contributing to it.
Somehow that seems reasonable. Doesn't matter what's causing ALL the problem if I'm contributing to it.
