Universal health care is inevitible in the US.

The cost of health care has become unaffordable to a large and growing segment of the population. These people can VOTE. When the percentage of those who are without affordable health care reaches some level, health care will become the number one political issue. Congress will hear these voters and respond as has the legislature of every single advanced country other than the US by the creation of a national health service. The result will be higher taxes, of course, but the struggling lower middle class will finally have health care that it can afford.

Not necessarily good, but inevitable, by the laws of politics.
