It's a bit easier when you can suck medical technology, drugs, advanced techniques, and other medical advances off the medical research and development infrastructure of your neighbor to the South. Or didn't you know that the billions spent to create all this is all included in America's national "health spending" as a percentage of GDP?
Same is true of all the other "socialized medicine" Western nations.
Never mind that the United States has nine times the population of Canada. Hell, California has more people in it.
I can't get over how enthusiastic some Americans are about turning over their lives and health care to the government. That every government health care program to date has outraced its predicted costs by almost an order of magnitude is lost on them. That the government programs they have to deal with now are abusive, ineffective, and wasteful is lost on them. Everything is free, and nobody pays! Well, except people we don't like.
I really wish I could stick some people in a parallel universe where it's no longer possible to make a profit in the medical field anywhere in the world. See what you wind up with. If you want to use the automotive industry as an analogy, think Yugo.
