Manuals are typically either installed in the computer now, or on CDs if they're not online.

I like manuals for things like AutoCAD and Solidworks to be nice, thick books with color pictures and lots of examples. That I can highlight, and stick bookmark Post-its in. I'm old fashioned that way.
