Solar-tides. I'll show the simple calculations.
Solar-tides are only 1/2 as powerful as lunar tides on Earth.
Solar-tides on Earth can and do raise waves over 10ft in places
on this planet.
So, since Mars at it's closest is 1.4 times further from the sun than
Earth, solar tides on Mars [assuming Mars had large seas] would
have been be 2.8 times less powerful than on Earth.
Equations: 1 / (1.4)^3 = 1 / 2.8.
(1 / 2.8) x [10ft (solar tides on Earth)] x ( 1.0g / 0.4g) =
= 3.5ft x (1.0g / 0.4g) = 9-10 ft high tides possible in ancient Martian
seas.
How about that!!?
