Excellent points about the chaotic instability of the Martian axis. Recent dynamical analyses credit the moon with keeping Earth's precessing pole at a relatively constant inclination. What this says about the prevalance of habitable planets with liquid oceans over the gigayears apparently needed to develop 'animal' life is still speculative.
